On a small corner of Kent County a family farm is supporting a very important part of the Maryland economy and tourism. The Crow family, owners of a 3rd generation 365-acre farm, are real pioneers in the Maryland wine industry. Their vision to diversify the farm in a way that shares the farm winery experience with tourists from around the country is certainly paying off. In June of 2023, Governor Wes Moore and Secretary of Agriculture, Kevin Atticks visited Crow Farm so they could see firsthand the farming diversification and sustainability model that the Crow family respectively promotes.
“Behind the Scenes” Wine Seminars at Crow
At Crow we believe the ultimate wine experience is sharing how we make wine with those who wish to get a hands on experience with our authentically driven farm vineyard operations. As farmers, we are completely transparent about how we respect, till and cultivate our lands. Now a successful farm vineyard and winery, we seek to share how we craft wines that are 100% sourced from our farm vineyard.
To this end, we conduct educational and interactive “Beyond the Glass” wine seminars each year where participants get an inside look into our operations and can participate in our winemaking.
“Farm-Grown” Wines at Crow
Our focus at Crow has been to expand our vineyard operations to the point where all our wines are made from grapes grown in the vineyard on our farm. We are happy to announce that we have reached this goal: our wines are truly “farm-grown” and we are in constant control of the wine’s journey from the grapes to your glass.
In fact, you can walk out the door of the winery and, within a few steps, you’re walking alongside our vines. Moreover, the area you sit in while enjoying our wines is immediately adjacent to the vineyard grapes that made it. Continue reading Wine Farming at Crow #2 in a Series
Wine Farming at Crow
In 2022 we are celebrating a milestone year marking 10 years of wine farming. We feel blessed to have been in the business of being a successful farm winery for these years.
Wine farming is unique at Crow because of the fact that we were and are a farm first. Many wineries create a farm component after their establishment but at Crow the rich soils and farm work ethic existed already. Crow has been farming on the land we live and operate our business on since the early 1900’s. That’s a long time! We attribute our success to our authentic farm heritage and continued operations as a working farm which produces wheat, corn and soy and delicious grass-fed beef from our herd of Angus cattle.
Our winery opened ten years ago in 2012 following two years of careful vineyard planning and planting. Combining skillful farming practices with our dedication to learning vineyard management has led to quality fruit for us to work with in our winery. Here are a few of our wine farming practices that have led to ten years of achievements at Crow. View Achievements>
