    In 2022 we are celebrating a milestone year marking 10 years of wine farming. We feel blessed to have been in the business of being a successful farm winery for these years.

    Wine farming is unique at Crow because of the fact that we were and are a farm first. Many wineries create a farm component after their establishment but at Crow the rich soils and farm work ethic existed already. Crow has been farming on the land we live and operate our business on since the early 1900’s. That’s a long time! We attribute our success to our authentic farm heritage and continued operations as a working farm which produces wheat, corn and soy and delicious grass-fed beef from our herd of Angus cattle.

    Our winery opened ten years ago in 2012 following two years of careful vineyard planning and planting. Combining skillful farming practices with our dedication to learning vineyard management has led to quality fruit for us to work with in our winery.     Maryland winery and its Farmstay B&B ‘getting back into the swing’ of things

    Crow Vineyard & Winery sits on a 365-acre working farm in Kennedyville, in Maryland’s Kent County.

    It’s located a few miles from Chestertown, the county seat, and less than an hour and a half drive from Philadelphia. Baltimore is due west, on the other side of the Chesapeake Bay. The winery address is 12441 Vansants Corner Road.

    Like many East Coast wineries, it’s a family-run business in a rural setting. It opened in 2012.

    What makes it unique are the Farmstay B&B that sits on the property and the fresh Angus grass-fed beef that’s for sale there. Few wineries possess either let alone both. In addition, there are days like this coming Sunday set aside for hayrides, and the winery just started offering picnic packs (two mini bottles of wine and a cheese tray for $40).

    The Maryland Wineries Association Board of Directors has elected officers to lead the organization through 2021.

    • President: Judy Crow, Crow Vineyards – Kennedyville, Kent Co.
    • Vice President: Adam Fizyta, Catoctin Breeze Vineyard – Thurmont/Frederick Co.
    • Treasurer: Kimberly Johnson, Philosophy Winery – Baltimore City
    • Secretary: Karen Seppi, Love Point Vineyards – Stevensville, Queen Anne’s County

    “This executive committee represents a variety of business models, providing a great foundation for our work ahead,” said Kevin Atticks, MWA’s executive director.

    “After many pivots and changes last year due to COVID, I am confident that the Maryland wine industry will flourish,” said Judy Crow, who has served as president since 2018, and was asked to continue in the role in an acting capacity, pending a bylaws change. “There are so many talented and committed Board member that work tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure that any obstacles that we may encounter can be overcome.”

    Adam Fizyta’s Catoctin Breeze Vineyard has earned two Comptroller’s Cup Best in Show awards in the last three years. Kimberly Johnson is co-owner of Maryland’s first African American women-owned winery in Maryland. Karen Seppi is co-owner of one of Maryland’s newest wineries, which began selling wines during COVID. All three joined the Board in January.

    The organization’s primary goals are to promote and grow the Maryland wine industry.

    Boordy Vineyards wins Maryland Governor’s Cup,
    Port of Leonardtown Winery wins Jack Aellen Cup

    (ANNAPOLIS, MD) – The Maryland Governor’s Cup will take up a year-long residency at Boordy Vineyards in Baltimore County. The 2020 Maryland Wine Governor’s Cup Competition featured 160 entries from nearly 30 Maryland wineries. This annual competition features Maryland-made wines, produced with grapes and fruits grown in the state. Maryland vineyards currently grow nearly 1000 acres of grapes throughout each of the state’s unique growing regions.

    “For the second year in a row, a Bordeaux blend has taken top honors,” says Kevin Atticks, Executive Director of the Maryland Wineries Association. “The Landmark Reserve further illustrates that serious red blends have become the benchmark.” The Bordeaux-style blend was produced from grapes grown on the winery’s South Mountain Vineyard in Frederick County.

    The Governor’s Cup Competition was twice delayed due to COVID restrictions. Originally planned for August 2020, the competition was finally held on February 5 with a cohort of judges and staff.
